Cheshire's Sustainable Community Stratety

The Cheshire Sustainable Community Strategy (2006 - 2010) is currently close to completion. The new Strategy has been under simultaneous development with Cheshire's Draft Local Area Agreement. It represents the priorities identified through the thematic partnerships in existence and those from the six District Community Plans.

Those priorities and key issues for Cheshire's residents and visitors are supported by the research evidence produced in the 2005 Cheshire Quality of Life Survey and the Cheshire Community Report.

The new Strategy is underpinned by the following vision:

“We want Cheshire to be a place where people want to live and work, now and in the future - where everyone can achieve their potential and make an effective contribution, at work and play, at home and in the community, in a safe and healthy environment, take an active part in decisions, and continue to learn and develop throughout their lives”.

The Cheshire Sustainable Community Strategy is based around the following themes:

Safer & Stronger Communities
Children & Young People
Healthier Communities & Older People
Economic Development & Enterprise
Environment
Innovation and New Ways of Working

When we achieve our vision for a sustainable Cheshire, it will be a place that is:

Active, inclusive and safe – fair, tolerant and cohesive with a strong local identity and other shared community activities;

Well run – with effective and inclusive participation, representation and leadership;

Environmentally sensitive – providing places for people to live that are considerate of the environment;

Well designed and built – featuring a quality built and natural environment;

Well connected – with good transport services and communication linking people to jobs, schools, health and other services;

Thriving – with a flourishing and diverse local economy;

Well served – with public, private, community and voluntary services that are appropriate to people’s needs and accessible to all; and

Fair for everyone – including those in all communities, now and in the future.

Work is ongoing on the current draft Action Plan dimension of the new Cheshire Sustainable Community Strategy. However, additional details will be included once the Cheshire LAA has been submitted to Whitehall for approval. Additional items for the Cheshire Sustainable Community Strategy will be those activities unable to be included in the LAA.
